We as the Institute for Islamic and Turkish Studies and Ezher (Bloom) Mosque condemn the atrocities being carried out by ISIL/ISIS in Syria and Iraq.  Islam is a religion of peace.  It forbids the injury of Innocents, in particular women, children, the elderly, and even of crops, trees, natural resources, and property.  The example of Prophet Muhammad, God’s peace and blessings be upon him, is the example of tolerance, patience, forgiveness, mercy, kindness, and altruism, even to those who would seek to oppress or harm, in the hopes of changing hearts and minds not by words but by example.

The mission of IITS is to promote dialogue and communication between religions, so that such atrocious acts as those being carried out by ISIS/ISIL never have the chance to be conceived let alone enacted.  It is our strong feeling that if dialogue had been in place in Syria/Iraq and a true understanding of the heart and principals of religion had been comprehended then regardless of religious, ethnic, or social backgrounds people in these countries would have been able to live in peace despite their differences.

In the end, we are all simply humans.  We all care for our children, the environment, and our community.  We all hope to leave the world a better place than we found it.  We all want our children to grow up in peace and plenty.  We all seek to please the Creator of the Universe through our deeds, words, and thoughts.  We ask you to join us in not only condemning the disgusting acts being committed by ISIS and ISIL but also to join us in preventing new ignorance and hatred from taking roots in hearts and minds by actively engaging in dialogue, discourse, and discussion with those around you, and finding common ground to stand firmly upon.
