The Institute of Islamic and Turkish Studies condemns, in the strongest terms, the heinous attack on the French magazine Charlie Hebdo that left 12 people dead and several others injured. This despicable crime is committed against freedom of expression, democracy, peace and humanity.  Acts of terrorism and killing of innocent people cannot be justified by any reason including religion.  As the Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen stated we believe that no true Muslim can be a terrorist and no terrorist can be a true Muslim.

In these hard times we stand by the people of France and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased while wishing a quick recovery to those who are injured. We pray for patience and perseverance, and for their suffering to be alleviated.
